About the brewery…
Boon Brewery (Brouwerij Boon) produces geuze and kriek beer of a fairly traditional lambic variety, but using modern brewing techniques and equipment. Lambic is a type of beer brewed in the Pajottenland region since the 13th century. Lambic differs from most other beers in that it is fermented through exposure to wild yeasts and bacteria native to the Zenne valley, as opposed to exposure to carefully cultivated strains of brewer’s yeast. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavour: dry, vinous, and cidery, often with a tart aftertaste. Other products of the brewery include Faro beer and Duivelsbier, the traditional beer of Halle.
Old Geous Boon VAT 31 was crowned by the World Beer Awards as the ′′World’s Best Geuze” in 2021! Making this beer took 5 and a half years of continuous quality care and use of ideal raw materials, brewing, four and a half years of ripening in an oak barrel and finally another year of ripening in the bottle.
