About the brewery…

Boon Brewery (Brouwerij Boon) produces geuze and kriek beer of a fairly traditional lambic variety, but using modern brewing techniques and equipment. Lambic is a type of beer brewed in the Pajottenland region since the 13th century.  Lambic differs from most other beers in that it is fermented through exposure to wild yeasts and bacteria native to the Zenne valley, as opposed to exposure to carefully cultivated strains of brewer’s yeast. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavour: dry, vinous, and cidery, often with a tart aftertaste. Other products of the brewery include Faro Boon and Duivelsbier, the traditional beer of Halle.

Boon beer won no fewer than 10 prizes at the World Beer Awards 2024 with five beers, including ‘World’s best Sour & Wild Beer’.

About the distillery…

Jaak’s cousin, Manu De Cort, operates the family-owned De Cort Belgian Farm Distillery in Pepingen, the only warm distillery in Pajottenland and the Zenne Valley as they make their own alcohol from their own agricultural raw materials – apples, maize, potatoes, wheat and barley. Their flavors are unique, fuller and softer. They won, in the last 2 years only, more than 7 gold medals on famous international spirit competitions.
