Het verhaal van B&B Hallerbos: met liefde gemaakt, steen voor steen, plank voor plank<\/h1>\n

In de jaren 1930 woonden Jozef Springael, zijn vrouw Agnes Derdelinckx en hun vier kinderen in het kleine boerderijtje (dat er nu nog staat!) op de hoek van de wegen Hallerbos en Kleinheide in Halle. Hun huis stond op de heuveltop en keek uit over hun uitgestrekte eigendom van weelderige weiden en slingerende weilanden die zich uitstrekten tot aan de grens van het schijnbaar eindeloze Hallerbos van 500 hectare. Zij verzorgden hun dieren, groentegewassen en graanvelden, en verzorgden fruitboomgaarden en een prachtige bloementuin. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Toen Jozef in 1964 overleed, werd het land onder zijn kinderen verdeeld. Zijn zoon Jan en Jan’s vrouw Eugenie De Maere erfden de boomgaarden en het land van Kleinheide 2. Als verrassingsgeschenk voor haar man kocht Eugenie een modelwoning van de Wereldtentoonstelling van Brussel in 1958 om op het terrein van Kleinheide 2 te plaatsen. Jan en zijn zonen, Jan Jr., Hendrik, Pauwel en Baudewijn, begonnen in de jaren 1970 met de bouw van het huis. Maar in 1974 overleed Jan, zoals het lot helaas wilde, plotseling voordat het droomhuis van de familie klaar was. Jan Jr., Hendrik, Pauwel en Baudewijn gingen echter door en maakten de bouw van het huis voor hun moeder af. Eugenie en de jongens woonden in het huis en zorgden voor hun ouder wordende grootmoeder Agnes in de boerderij ernaast, tot in de jaren tachtig, toen Agnes naar een rusthuis verhuisde en Eugenie daarna naar een kleiner huis verhuisde, omdat haar jongens mannen waren geworden met een eigen huis. Het huis op Kleinheide 2 werd gehuurd door Hendrik, zijn vrouw Joske Decreton en hun kinderen. De kinderen versierden hun kamers met handgeschilderde Kuifje Belgische stripbeelden!<\/p>\n

Op een ochtend in het voorjaar van 1995 reed mijn man Jaak langs Kleinheide 2, juist op het moment dat Hendrik een bord “Landhuis Te Koop” aan het ophangen was. Jaak belde mij op mijn kantoor in het Europees Parlement en zei: “Je moet onmiddellijk hierheen komen! Ik heb ons droomhuis gevonden!”. Toen ik aankwam, was ik op slag verliefd op het geweldige uitzicht over het Hallerbos en het feit dat ik de voordeur uit kon gaan en er letterlijk in kon lopen! Wij kochten het huis op Kleinheide 2 nog diezelfde avond! Het huis had nogal wat werk nodig \u2013 de benedenverdieping waar nu onze woonkamer is, was een stal voor boerderijdieren! \u2013 maar met de hulp van geweldige vrienden en familie (betaald in eten, drinken en veel gelach!) hebben we het huis en de tuin volledig gerenoveerd. En na 10 jaar werk kochten we eindelijk ligstoelen en konden we in het weekend gewoon in de tuin relaxen.<\/p>\n

Door dit alles heen werd Kleinheide 2 ons thuis. Onze dochters Celine en Alex zijn hier geboren en getogen. En wij hebben letterlijk duizenden mooie herinneringen aan onze tijden hier samen in de afgelopen 30 jaar, met onze 37-koppige familie De Cort, onze 27-koppige “Gite Groep” van vrienden, de scoutsgroepen en vrienden van Celine en Alex, het voetbalteam van Jaak en hun gezinnen en mijn collega’s op het werk en hun gezinnen. We hebben feest gevierd met paaseieren zoeken, communies, lentewandelingen tussen de hyacinten, zomer-BBQ’s en zwembadfeestjes, herfst-boswandelingen, Halloween-kampvuren, Thanksgiving- en kerstdiners, nieuwjaarsvieringen, verjaardagen, trouwfeesten, teamretraites, gewoon chillen op het achterterras en nog zo veel meer!<\/p>\n

In juli 2019 had ik, na een interventie onder leiding van Alex en Celine, wat ik nu een “spiritueel ontwaken” noem \ud83d\ude09 dat me ertoe bracht mijn evenwicht tussen werk en priv\u00e9 opnieuw te evalueren. Het was een logische en natuurlijke keuze om van de hobby van ons gezin ons familiebedrijf te maken. En het brengt Jaak en mij eigenlijk terug naar onze oorspronkelijke wortels en passies in koken en horeca \u2013 ik was kok in verschillende toprestaurants tijdens mijn studie en Jaak begon op 14-jarige leeftijd te werken in het toprestaurant van zijn vader in Brussel en bleef het grootste deel van zijn leven in wisselende mate in de horeca werken.<\/p>\n

In augustus 2020 zijn wij begonnen met de verbouwing van ons huis tot Hallerbos B&B. Deze B&B is met liefde gemaakt, steen voor steen, plank voor plank, door Jaak, zijn zakenpartner en buurman Patrick Van Roy. En ik had het interieur niet kunnen doen zonder de onschatbare adviezen van Manuelle Van den Brande van SHADE \u2013 House of Color. En veel, heel veel van onze vrienden en familie hebben een steentje bijgedragen. Mijn oprechte dank gaat uit naar ieder van u, met een speciaal woord van dank voor Alex en Celine De Cort, Scouts Sint-Rochus, Thierry Lemmens, Ali Seck en Nathan Felis, voor het waarmaken van mijn dromen!<\/p>\n

Nu wij ons klaarmaken om onze deuren te openen in november, is de cirkel voor Hallerbos B&B echt rond \u2013 en dat bezorgde ons allemaal kippenvel en tranen! Een paar weken geleden ontdekte ons gezin het verbazingwekkend lekkere en supergezellige restaurant TWA \u00e9 MWA<\/a> in het centrum van Halle. Wij vonden het zo leuk dat wij de eigenaars \u2013 Ben en Nathalie \u2013 gevraagd hebben of wij hen mochten opnemen in onze dinersuggesties voor onze gasten. Toen ik uitlegde waar Hallerbos B&B ligt, zei Ben: “Op Kleinheide? Nummer 2 Kleinheide? Mijn overgrootouders Jozef en Agnes bezaten dat land en ik heb vroeger in dat huis gewoond met mijn vader en stiefmoeder Hendrik en Joske!” Over serendipiteit gesproken!<\/p>\n

Ik bezocht Joske onlangs om wat familiefoto’s van Springael te verzamelen voor deze blogpost en om een trip down memory lane te maken. Tijdens ons gesprek vertelde ze me dat Jan Jr. en zijn vrouw Armande in 2000 de beroemde Mokkadis Traditionele Koffiebranderij en Caf\u00e9<\/a> van Halle hebben opgericht. Hun Mokkadis koffie is een officieel erkend Vlaams-Brabants Streekproduct (“Erkend Vlaams-Brabants Streekproduct”) en het Mokkadis Caf\u00e9 is een van de topkoffieshops in Pajottenland. Sinds augustus 2018 zijn Serge en Cindy Van Cauter eigenaar van Mokkadis en blijven ze koffie branden op dezelfde traditionele manier.
